The journey to nationalization to privatization

In the late 1990's, the Government of Pakistan considered selling the airline to the private sector due to the persistent losses suffered by the airline. The government announced its privatization plans but they were never implemented. Several steps towards outsourcing of non-core business have been initiated. Catering units (starting with Karachi Flight Kitchen), ground handling (starting with ramp services) and engineering, are to be gradually carved out of the airline and operated as independent companies. During 1997, Pakistan called in a team from International Finance (IFC), the consulting arm of the World Bank, to advise on restructuring and privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). However,The government has had many plans for the privatization of the State owned airline. However, no reasonable agreement or solution has been found to this day. Since 2004,PIA's performance is very unsatisfied .On 18 February 2009 the carrier was dropped from the privatization list.The financial performance form 2011 continues to be a challenge with an after tax loss of PKR 26.767 billion.
       ''The main reason behind the privitization of PIA is the government took loan from IMF 2 years ago.with the promise to privitized the PIA.As government say that they will gave their loan back after few months or 6 month,then the process of privitization will start.now the present installment of the loan will be conditional with the payment will be realized with the privitizaion of PIA.
     As minister ishaq daar said,PIA have 38 aeroplanes and the people who are employeed in PIA are about 19000,if we compare it from a turkish airline they have 296 planes and people who work thier are about 18000 only...PIA airline work in 67 countries and on the other hand the turkish airline served 282 places in the world.PIA is in debt about 23 crore and 80 lac in US dollar ...All the system is currupte,there is no one who check on these things.People only compare the situations but no one sort out the solution,after privitization of these institude like HBL,UBL,Allied bank,etc now the turn of Pakistan steel milles and Pakistan International Airline.wheather it will be beneficial to pakistan to privitize it or not.Now it is delayed for six month more,god knows better what will be the future of PIA.
